Clean & Maintenance Kit

This kit includes the main materials used to clean and maintain fountain pens, but requires prior knowledge to use. If in doubt, do not use it and seek adequate information before using it on your pens.

Ammonia Solution: Do not inhale, very strong smell! In most cases, washing the fountain pens with running water is enough to clean the pens. A few drops of dishwashing liquid in a container of water facilitate the dissolution of dried inks. Ammonia is very efficient in removing most inks, but it can occasionally cause stains and discoloration on more sensitive materials. It is recommended to dilute it in a proportion of 1 part solution to 2 parts water.

2500 grit sandpaper: This is a very fine-grain sandpaper that can be used to touch up the polishing of the nib to reduce excessive feedback. It is recommended to use it wet, even if it is due to the pen's own ink. After use, wash it in running water and let it dry. Even though it is very fine, it is an abrasive and can damage the nib if the user does not master the polishing technique. Use over the rubber mat for more comfortable and safe use.

Brass sheets: Used to remove residues from nibs and feeders. Supplied in thicknesses of 0.03 and 0.05 mm. Generally used when ink flow is poor. Can be easily cut with scissors when the edge is crushed.

Flannel for precious metals: Used to clean and polish solid metal parts or those coated with precious metals, such as silver, gold or platinum. Should not be washed to avoid losing its efficiency.

Rubber bulb: Used to wash nibs, allowing water to be injected under pressure into the feeder. It also facilitates drying by injecting air to remove water.

Rubber rings: Makes it easier to hold parts firmly for disassembly/reassembly. Protects hands from sharp and cutting edges. Do not use with pliers, as there is a high risk of damage to the pens.

Pipettes, syringes and needles: Used to transfer inks and other liquids, and to fill cartridges and pens. The needles are curved and have no sharp points to facilitate the aspiration of small volumes and prevent injuries to the hands.

Brushes, wooden sticks and plastic tweezers: Soft materials used to wash and clean pens. Avoid using box cutters and sharp instruments that can cause scratches and damage to more delicate parts.

Plastic containers with lids: Use to soak parts or to store small components that can easily be lost.

Illuminated magnifying glass: The lens diameter is small, but the magnification is high (40X). It is useful for viewing the tips of the pen, facilitating manual alignment. Use alkaline batteries and remove them when not in use to prevent leaks and damage to electrical contacts.

High viscosity silicone grease: Use a thin layer, especially on the threads after washing the parts. It prevents future jamming and possible cracks and breaks. It also helps to seal small gaps and leaks.
